BRING YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE TO THE SONG!

Everyone is different, our experiences, emotional makeup, perceptions, upbringing, sensitivity and much more. Even if you grow up in the same household, no one is exactly alike. You may have experienced the same things growing up, but each child will have their own interpretation of things that have happened.

As an artist you bring to a song all that is you, whether It’s your voice or playing piano, no one can replicate your inner experiences that will come out as emotion in your performance. It’s all you, it’s important to understand only you have what you’re going to bring. No one else has it. There is a beautiful strength and confidence that comes with knowing that what you bring to the song, the feelings, emotions, viewpoint are uniquely different than anyone else. You are the only one that has what you have. The way that you hear music, the way that you hear lyrics, the way that you feel, the way that you process your emotions, the way that you put your words together, your voice, the way that you sing the melodies are uniquely different than anyone else. Only you can bring what’s inside you and know-one else has what you have inside. Knowing what you’re going to bring to the song a perspective and feeling that no one else has.

When performing, everyone goes through experiences where they feel like they don’t fit in, self-conscience, fearful, unsure about themselves. It’s ok, use that in your music because people relate to it. Just be yourself, you do you, no one can feel those feelings the way you do. Use your uniqueness in your singing or playing piano. Use your unpleasant experiences as stepping stones to become greater. Find humor in those unpleasant moments, the humor will squash the negative power. You deactivate the bomb of fear the next time you perform. Everyone will have some unpleasant experiences performing in the beginning, learn and push through for your next one. Listen to Lexie Myers singing “My Boy” and the go to YouTube and look up Audrey Diaz singing “My Boy.” Two distinctly different vibes and feel for the song, both are great in their own way.
