There are different ways to add variety and create your own sound when you sing or play the piano. If you use inflections, dynamics, accents, staccatos and emotion into your performance it takes you to a whole new level. If you are singing or playing in a band, timing is essential!
For voice using inflections is related to a change in pitch or tone; the rise and fall of a singer’s pitch. Adding inflection into your singing voice adds variety and is used to emphasize adding emotion into your vocals. The foundational techniques are posture, soft palate, tongue placement, diaphragm & breath support, smoothly transitioning from one vocal register to another, and training the ear to sing on pitch. Building a good, solid vocal foundation is first and foremost. There are some technique differences when singing different genres of music.
For piano certain patterns are used to create a song. There are patterns to begin and end a song, it’s all about numbers in music theory and understanding the layout of music. Music theory includes timing, inversions, chord progressions, intervals and more. It’s important to understand how music works, but it’s just as important to train your ears to recognize chords, chord progressions, melodic and harmonic intervals.
