CHANGES IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
Streaming songs has become the #1 way for consumers to experience new songs, album or single song releases. The purchase of a physical album is declined immensely. Beyonce has become a trend setter by releasing a new song with a “surprise drop” and this has become common practice among artists.
The music industry has gone through a vast transformation in the past decade. Even though 2011 does not seem that long ago, the difference in the music industry is immense! You were probably listening to music on an iPod or going to Target to buy a CD of the hottest new album. Now, ten years later iPods and CDs have disappeared and streaming songs, buying vinyl records and listening to music through a cell phone are popular!
Streaming songs has become the #1 way for consumers to experience new songs, albums or a single song release. The purchase of a physical album has declined immensely. Beyonce has become a trend setter by releasing a new song with a “surprise drop” and this has become common practice for many artists. International artists are welcome now more than ever. Most consumers listen to music through their cell phones and Youtube is used to promote new artists and new songs.
Even though it has only been 10 or 11 years, the vast difference in the music business undeniable. Streaming is #1 with companies like Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Itunes and they have taken over the music industry. Nowadays, singers are not spending huge amounts of money on a press release. In 2017, Taylor Swift dropped her album “Reputation” without press interview. She used social media avenues to announce the release. As of January 2020, vinyl records sales have increased over 15% in one year. The Jonas Brothers actually started the Jonas Vinyl Club that fans can join. And now more than ever, many artists are crossing over music genres from country to pop, rap to country! It will be exciting to see what changes will happen in the next decayed!
