CHRISTINA AGUILERA’S VOCAL WARM-UPS PART II

Early morning warm-ups should be less dramatic and gentle. If you a morning performance, take it easy with the warm-ups. Use a less aggressive approach with humming, the bubble (or lip trills) and the r-roll (or tongue trills). We will look at the best ways to start vocal warm-ups. If you are warming up in the afternoon or later in the day, you can be more aggressive with your warm-ups.

After the less aggressive warm-up exercises, you can get a little spicy by mixing the vowel sounds like “oh, eh, ee and ah.” Try the five-finger scale going up and down “oh, oh, oh, eh, eh, eh, ee, ee, ah.” This is a great way to loosen up your vocals.

When using the “E” sound, make sure your facial muscles relaxed. It’s important not to clench your jaw or create tension in the face and body. Christina likes to use the word “free” with ad-libbing variations using chords going up and down her vocal range. So, try singing the word “free” in your next vocal warm-up.

Using the “uh” sound is like using a yawn in your warm-up. You can use the word “run” while doing your vocal exercises. As you sing higher, notice how pressure is taken off your vocal cords with the “uh” sound. Also, notice how the soft pallet is raising as you sing higher.

Vocal exercises are the backbone of a great singer. If you are having trouble creating your own or do not have a work vocal exercise routine, contact a vocal coach in your area to help you.

MUSIC QUOTE FOR THE DAY:

“Beethoven tells you what it’s like to be Beethoven, and Mozart tells you what it’s like to be human. Bach tells you what it’s like to be the universe.” – Douglas Adams
