2 WAYS TO CHANGE YOUR VOCAL TONE

Vocal tone is the sound of your voice as you sing. Everyone has a unique and individual voice because of the natural shape of the vocal tract and sinus structure. That is why families that sing together blend well; their physical structure is similar.

There are two ways a singer can work on changing their vocal tone. The first technique used to change your tone is by the way you shape your lips (mouth), tongue, and other articulators.  Manipulating the shape of these articulators will create different sounds. Here is an example, try singing the word “buh” with a smile. Now, shape your mouth like an O and sing “buh.” Try dropping the jaw as you sing “buh” again. Each time you will have a slightly different sound. You can make your voice brighter by the shape of your mouth. If you smile while you sing it will brighten your sound.

The second way to change your vocal tone is done by the way you enunciate your words. For instance, if you sang with a British accent, it would change the way your tone sounds. By manipulating the shape of your mouth or manipulating the enunciation of words will change your vocal tone. These tone changing techniques requires a lot of focus on while you sing. The more you work at it and do it, the easier it will become
