CREATING YOUR STAGE PERFORMANCE
As an artist and singer, you need to envision what your performance will look like. What is your look, are you going to play an instrument, will you dance or have dancers on the stage with you? What will your colors be (what colors do you love), will you stand still, what will your stage be like? Will you hold the mic, keep it on a stand, or use a head piece? What performances from other artists inspire you? Use the things that inspire you from other artists in your performance. Find the singers and artists that moves you. This is an exploration of your inner self. What really inspires you?
Choose the artists that really move you. Make a list and write down the qualities and characteristics that really move you. My favorites are Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Cheryl Crow and Shania Twain. All of these singers have different vocal qualities, strengths and vocal sound. Each of these artists have a different stage presents in their performances. They each have their own style. I love that they dig deep and sing from their soul.
Make a list of yours and write down what you love about each one. What is their style and what stylistic decisions did they make in their own performance. For instance: Christina uses dancers, Whitney just stood and sang. Shania Twain had a western and rock vibe with dancers. Cheryl Crow plays instruments in her performances with the band.
