DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SINGER & ARTIST
The roll of singer and the roll of an artist are different career paths. Each role is just as important and well respected, but there are distinct differences and here’s why.
An artist has a unique and distinct sound when they sing. Whenever they sing any song, you will recognize their voice immediately. A singer will mold the sound of their voice to the song or genre and basically copy the original artist who recorded the song.
An artist focuses on the songs they sing because it reflects their true feelings. In order for them to put the emotion into a song they need to feel it and believe it. A singer will sing whatever songs they get paid for whether they connect to the song or not.
An artist creates their own style musically, like a sub-genre. They do not copy what is already out on the music market. A singer will emulate other artists and specific genres.
An artist is all about their brand and protecting a certain image. The artist knows that he/she is the brand. Every outfit, haircut, color, style and car they drive reflect who the artist is and reflects their brand. All future plans are geared toward the brand and the image. A singer is all about the gig, the band members, like and dislikes. The singer is not concerned about an image.
An artist is on stage where ever they are, as soon as they walk out of the house they are on stage. The clothes they wear and the car they drive all project a specific image. A singer goes back to being themselves as soon as finish a gig.
An artist has a plan on how to get recognized, generate publicity, works hard at establishing his/her self and the brand. A singer follows the money, the next gig, sing on demos, singing numerous styles of music. The singer is continuously advertising service for hire.
