INSTANT GAME CHANGER FOR YOUR VOICE

Any aspiring singer should aim to achieve clear enunciation (to articulate, pronounce each syllable). The right inflections (rise and fall of pitch), diction (the style of enunciating) and pronunciation (the way you sound out a word) affect the feeling of a song. If you are mumbling the words you are singing, you will not get your message across because no one will know what the song is about. A good singer will have clear enunciation and they will craft each syllable precisely as needed. Mastering clear enunciation, diction and pronunciation will be a game changer for instantly making your voice sound better!

Pronunciation is related to how each syllable is emphasized and how the letters in each word are pronounced. Do you speak with a Bristish accent or American accent. Are you speaking with a southern accent or northern accent.

Enunciation refers to how clarity in which the lyrics as sung, sounding out the entire word like “around” (putting the d on the end of the word). So, whether you call it diction, enunciation or pronunciation it’s all about the clarity of each word and the way each syllable is shaped when singing. This is how you master your own sound.

A good enunciation exercise to practice is with tongue twisters, such as: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers” or “Betty Botter bought some butter,” and “How much wood would a woodchuck chuck.” Using this type of exercise will help with flexibility in the tongue and lips. Start slowly and be very articulate with the enunciation. Continuously repeating the exercise gradually picking up the speed and sing or speak the words faster. Breathing exercises and reading aloud are other ways to sharpen your enunciation skills. It’s all about training your mouth muscles!
