CREATING A VISION BOARD

To create an image as an artist can be a difficult task for some people. To help simplify it for you, let’s start with a vision board. A vision board is a power tool for manifesting what you want in your life. Do you want to be a singer, songwriting, pianist, perform with your own band? Or do you want to be a solo artist with your guitar? The vision board will help you pinpoint the steps you need to take or the things you need to do. It helps you sort out what you want and do not want, giving you a clear picture in your mind of what you want and the direction you want to go.

Get a poster board and choose a theme such as famous singer, band, or songwriter. Now you need some thoughtful preparation by answering some questions. What parts of music do you like the most? Do you like performing, do you like practicing, do you like jamming with others, do you like working alone? What skills do you have? Can you sing? Can you play an instrument? Are you a poet? Do you have good writing skills? Are you good at writing hooks? What are your strengths and weaknesses in reference to your goal or theme?

Now print out pictures of artists you love and want to emulate. What styles from other artists do you love? Print out different clothing styles and put them on your vision board. Print out pictures of venues you would like perform. Select images that represent you, your interests and your brand aspirations as an artist.

Now you need to figure out the steps you need to take to make your vision come to life. A vision of who you are and who you aspire to be is the first step. Who you are as an artist, what is your story, and what do you want to be known for, these are all questions that you need to answer in order to move forward.

Gather your materials to start you vision board and take some time to clarify you vision. Next, find the images that represent your vision and arrange them on your vision board. Place the vision board where you will see it all the time.

JOKE FOR THE DAY:

George Melly to Mick Jagger: “Why is your face was so wrinkled?”
“Laughter lines,” Jagger said to his friend, with a grin.
“Nothing’s that funny,” Melly quipped
