No matter what you do, you should always be original, be yourself. Whether singing a song, playing the piano or any other instrument, put your stamp on the song. Being original is being true to yourself and not conforming to what is expected.
To be original takes innovation, you need to bring something different to the table that others do not. Never deviate, or give up on what you are passionate about. The music industry if a tough business and if you give up at the first hurdle, you will never succeed. Success means you have failed many times before arriving at the success destination. Be original with your voice, your music as well as your visual style and identity as an artist. If your identity as a singer, songwriter and musician is all over the place, it will be harder for an audience to identify you.
Singers and musician alike need to be original. Look at Slash! He has created his own image, sound and style as a guitar player. Elton John and Lady Gaga, both singers and pianists with their own original image, style and sound. Look what Justin Bieber or Jennifer Aniston did with the haircuts! So be your authentic self and be original!
