6 STEPS TO EASE ANXIETY WHEN YOU SING

Do you get performance anxiety whenever you sing or play piano in front of an audience? This can be difficult if you make your living on stage. Some of the most famous singers and musicians suffer from performance anxiety.

Step #1, practice, practice, practice and know your material well. Practicing daily is an important key element of preparation. Sometime anxiety can come from lack of belief in your own abilities. By practicing thoroughly will help to bring down your anxiety level.

Step #2 is proper posture which will give you some added confidence. It’s true, good posture makes you feel more confident. Take a moment before you begin to sing or play, and make sure your posture is good and take a deep breath or two.

Step #3 is visualizing a cheering audience going crazy as you come out on stage. Before you go to sleep each night, picture in your mind performing in front of a cheering audience.

Step #4 is getting up on stage for karaoke night and practicing in front of a live audience. Some places have open mic night, where you can sing with the band. The more you do it the easier it gets. Some professional singers might turn their nose up, but I think any chance you get to perform in front of an audience helps ease your anxiety. Make sure you sing songs you have practiced and know well. Do not try out a new song in front of other people.

Step #5 is performing with other singers in a duet, trio, church group or choir up on stage. If you have the opportunity to sing with others in a church or in a choir setting is a wonderful way to start.

Step #6, the last suggestion is to get proper voice or piano lessons. If you are serious about being a singer or performer, getting instruction from a seasoned vocal coach or piano teacher will be of great benefit and build your confidence because you know you are doing it right.
