CREATE A BIGGER SOUND WHEN YOU SINGING
Voices are as distinct as a person’s face. Every voice is uniquely different and no voice is exactly alike. A singer should use their own vocal acoustic cavities in the vocal tract to amplify the voice. You want to create a bigger sound when transmitting from inside your mouth to the listening ear. A singer should use the natural acoustic properties of their voice to sing louder and create more resonance in a performance.
Have you ever noticed the way sound amplifies in a concert venue. The hard surfaces (walls and floor) reflect the sound which naturally amplifies the sound in the room. A sound engineer would say the room has good acoustics.
It’s the same concept with your voice. You need to use the nasal cavity, throat cavity and mouth cavity to create an amplification of your singing voice with these natural acoustic chambers.
The sound of your voice is affected by your physical structure, frequency vibration of the vocal folds (cords), timbre, power and flexibility.
Resonant strategies relate specifically to how the vocal tract resonates the harmonics sounds that are produced by the vocal. They include the process of making specific acoustic choices in order to harness energy boosts in the vocal sound.
Here is an example of vocal acoustics, call out the word “Woohoo”. Notice how your voice sounds. Where do you feel the “Woo” and then the “hoo” sounds? Many people say that they feel the “Woo” and “hoo” sensation in the back of their head and further up in their face, near the sinus area. Use your three vocal cavities to create a bigger sound when you sing!
