HOW TO SING IN FALSETTO
Do you want to learn how to sing in falsetto? To create that lighter, headier sound in the upper register is easier that you think. The vocal cords need to thin out and stretched in order to sing those high notes. Singing in falsetto is a lighter, breathier sound. The head voice has a richer, balanced sound when singing the high notes. The falsetto sound is much thinner and has an airy vocal sound when you sing.
The original term falsetto in Italian means “false soprano,” describing a male singing in higher-than- normal range in his head voice. The falsetto voice uses light muscle tension and only the edges of the vocal folds vibrate. This allows air to pass through the folds causing a breathier sound.
How to find the falsetto in your voice. Try making a siren sound, like a police car or ambulance. A high-pitched sound like WEE-oww or Waaaahhhh. The Eee or Oooh sound work the best when trying to find your falsetto voice. Now, try and start talking like Mickey or Minnie Mouse! You should be able to hear and feel the difference.
Both men and women are capable of singing in falsetto. You can also try the lip trills (bubble) or tongue trills (r roll) to access the head register and find you falsetto voice!
