CAREER OPTIONS FOR SINGERS & PIANISTS
There are many different career options for a singer & pianists. It all depends on your strengths and weakness. For instance, do you like performing? Can you sight read music? How is your ear training? Can you find and sing harmonies? Can you write your own songs? There are many things to consider when choosing which direction to go.
If you love to perform and sing in front of an audience then singing on a cruise ship, lead singer in a band, solo artist, club singer, opera singer, wedding singer, choir or backup singer for an established artist are some of your choices. You should look into the pros and cons of your choices, then choose which path you like the best.
If you are a songwriter, it’s important to polish your vocal technique to get the exact sound you want for your songs. Make sure to write the song in the correct key that makes your sweet spot (in your voice) shine! Find venues in your area that you can perform your songs. You can use social media to get your music out there and create a following. Another option is hiring someone to sing your songs. Try and pitch your songs to some recording artists you think would connect to your songs.
If you prefer not to sing in front of a large audience, being a session singer is a wonderful way of making a living. Whether it’s singing for video games, movies, tv, record songs for a songwriter, backup vocals, or even animated shows. They all have music and need singers.
Many movies, tv shows and commercials use choirs to record the music. The singers are contracted through a contractor who puts the choir together for the movie soundtrack recording. You need to be able to read the music (sight reading). Performing music for a recording is perfect for the shy singers. If a songwriter does not sing, they need to hire a singer to record their demo. The singer goes into the studio and records the music with no audience involved. Session singing also includes singing jingles for commercials.
Pianists can focus on being a classical pianist, studio musician, entertaining people in a piano bar, or playing in a band. There are many musicians that play and sing as a one man show for clubs, weddings, or other similar functions.
A voice or piano career is any type of job that involves singing or playing piano. Teaching piano or voice is always a wonderful option as well. Find the path that works for you and remember to keep your voice and fingers in tip top shape at all times. You must always be ready for an audition!
