WHAT TYPE OF VOICE DO YOU HAVE?
What makes one voice sound different from another? If you ever sang in a school or church choir, you know there are different categories or types singers such as bass, tenor, alto and soprano. How to figure out what your voice type is depends on you range. We will discuss the main types of vocal ranges.
FINDING YOUR RANGE
Using a piano, find the lowest and highest notes you can sing. On the piano (or keyboard) your first (on the left) C is called C1. As you go up the piano, the next C you come to is C2 and so forth. Find the lowest note you can hit, let’s say a G3 (3rd G from the left going to the right) and you can sing to E6. You are a Soprano is you voice falls in that range.
FIND YOUR PRIMA VOCE
Your Prima Voce is the area or range that you voice sounds the best. It is the sweet spot in your voice. This is where you will produce the best sound. It is also the area you have the most strength and vocal control naturally.
ANATOMICAL STRUCTURE OF YOUR VOICE
The anatomical structure of your voice is the way your body is made. The length and width of your vocal tract. The size of your larynx and the vocal cords (folds) length and mass.
